Packages always delivered at home

Delivery Doors

The new front door

Delivery Doors is a start up company which developed an innovative (patented) system for package delivery through a front door, garage door, wall or other barrier. The package receiving system functions to guarantee secure delivery of packages. The traditional mailbox in a front door will eventually be replaced by this new system.

The system
The system comprises three movable panels and a linkage between the panels. Each panel moves in a way to create an opening in the door through which a package can be delivered. The opening in the door is covered at all times by one of the three panels. The animation below shows how the system works.

Advantage

Online shopping increased significantly over the last couple of years, resulting in large volumes of packages being delivered at homes and businesses. However, couriers often try to deliver packages when recipients are not present. When packages cannot be delivered, the packages can be returned and delivered another day, left at the neighbors, brought to a pick-up location or left in front of the door. This can be annoying, time-consuming and costly for multiple constituents in the supply chain. In addition, packages left in front of the door or a pick-up location are vulnerable to theft or damage.

The advantage of a front door from Delivery Doors is that packages can always be delivered. This will result in:

  1. Less frustration for the receivers, because they do not have to pick up packages at neigbours or pick-up locations.
  2. Less theft of packages that are left in front of a door or in the yard.
  3. Less costs and CO2 emmissions for package delivery companies, because the km's (miles) travelled per delivered package will drop. This contributes to the goal to reduce climate change.

Development

Phase 1: we are currently developping a front door that meets the wishes and demands of the customers.

Phase 2: the system can be combined with a video doorbell. The system will be locked, and can be temporarily unlocked via an application on a smartphone. Therefore, an eletronic lock-system in combination with a video doorbell must be added to the system. See animation below.

Phase 3: the new system can also be used in the future when packages might be delivered by drones. A drone fly's towards the front door, the resident receives a notification via a smartphone, and than unlocks the system. The system than needs to be fully automatic.
